Critique of Websites

http://www.enchantedlearning.com/Home.html

This site is really corny looking and simple. I don’t know how to find anything on this site really, but it is clean. Everything is kind of random and the website is not organized or that usable, to me at least.

http://www.sleeep.com/aa/

This website is awesome, organized and clean. If you want to find information about this band it is all here. Everything is laid out and easy to find, very simple and usable. It looks like it should be boring, but there are links for songs and videos that are really interesting.

http://www.juxtapoz.com/

The site is engaging, it shows a featured artists work and everything is clean and organized. There are a lot of interesting images to look at and interesting information.

All of the information is laid out in a drop down menu with links to their blog, artwork, events and external links. Everything is easy to find immediately, and they have search engine too.

http://www.viceland.com/

This site is set up in a nice way. There are a lot of pictures and links. I normally go to this site not knowing what I am looking for, so it is a good site to go to and just kind of click around. There is a lot of information that is engaging and interesting.

The visual hierarchy doesn’t really make any sense; everything is kind of just thrown around. It is a little hard to find something specific if you are looking for it. You kind of just get whatever the website wants you to see, which is a little annoying.

http://www.reelmovienews.com/

The highlighted things are the major categories, which makes navigating this site pretty easy. The site is simple and spaced out; you can search for movies you are looking for easily so it is very usable. It is a little boring when you first get to it, but you can read about movie news and find information.

www.imdb.com

There is a little to much information spread out around this site, which makes it a little annoying. I think that this site is no simple enough, but I never go to this site unless I am looking up a movie specifically. When I do this, the website’s design works perfectly for me because I always find what I am looking for. The site does have a lot of information, but I can’t tell what is an advertisement and what is information from the site.

http://www.vimeo.com/

I like the way this site looks a lot; it is very fun, happy and light. There are little subtle flash animations in the side yet no clutter. There are a bunch of random popular videos that are interesting to look at. There is a too much advertisements on the site for itself, trying to get you to sign up. The bulk of the highlighted material is trying to get you to sign up for the site’s services, which is annoying. The videos are really high quality and they get this point across. It is easy to find information very quickly, the site is pretty logical, but the site focuses too much on promoting itself, which makes it unattractive. There is a lot of good material in this site but you have to ignore the stuff on the homepage to get to it I think.

http://www.nytimes.com/

This site is very professional looking, which makes sense. It is very organized and easy to find the information you are looking for. If you are looking for a specific article, it is easy to find it, and it is also easy to find random interesting articles as well. Interesting article titles are highlighted so that you can see what’s new.

http://www.random.org/

This site is set up pretty standard. There are categories on the top to find information and the title of the site is at the top. Everything is very easy to find, but extremely boring. There is nothing interesting to look at when you get to the home page.

http://digitalarts.com/

This site is spaced out really weird. They provide information about their company, but it doesn’t look very intriguing. I don’t want to click on anything. The website looks pretty organized and professional, which is nice. The home page reminds me of error 404 pages. The visual hierarchy doesn’t make much sense to me, but this may because I am not really interested in the site I guess.
